Make a Joyful Noise
The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir performs traditional and contemporary spirituals and gospel music, celebrating the history of the Negro Spiritual. It was formed to promote the artistic growth of children and youth in metropolitan San Diego, but it also serves as cultural ambassador in regional, national, and international concerts and seminars. Its director, Ken Anderson, provides historical context for this repertoire as well as leading the choir in this inspirational and uplifting music. Since 1997 the MLK Choir has been performing gospel concerts to raise funds for educational grants for San Diego County high school seniors pursuing a college degree in visual or performing arts. The Discovery series of concerts at the library serves to educate the public about various music forms and to expand the opportunity for local musicians to perform and provide insights to their music. There is no charge for this performance and all ages are welcome. The concert will be in the second floor community room at the library.
