International Documentary Film Series
Every year, unique perspectives from around the world come to San Diego for the IRC’s International Documentary Film Series. From the frontlines of conflict to rebuilding life in a new country, these films take an honest look at the reality of the refugee experience. Each screening is followed by a Q&A discussion with an expert on the film’s subject area. June 10: "This is Home:" The story of four Syrian refugee families sent to resettle in Baltimore. Winner of the 2018 Sundance Audience Award: World Cinema Documentary June 17: "New Neighbors Project:" In their voices, through their own eyes -- self-directed refugee films from the new American West June 24: "On Her Shoulders:" Nadia Murad, a 23-year old Yazidi, survived genocide and sexual slavery committed by ISIS. Now, this ordinary girl finds herself thrust onto the international stage as the voice of her people.
