Taste of Opera: Storytelling, Magic Realism, & Florencia
6811 La Jolla Boulevard, San Diego, 92037
Cost: $20
Call for tickets: 619-533-7000
Storytelling is the social and cultural activity of sharing stories, often with improvisation or embellishment. Magical realism is a literary, artistic, and cinematic technique that surrounds us every day and merges fantastic or mythical elements with realistic ones.
These two important artistic components merge in San Diego Opera's production of Florencia en el Amazonas, specifically because the libretto is heavily influenced by the writings of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Join Dr. Nicolas Reveles and William Nericcio, Professor of English and Comparative Literature at SDSU for a unique evening that will explore the use magical realism in the storytelling. Mix-and-mingle pre-event reception with light hors d’oeuvres, wine, and beer.
