UnKannie, Trails & Rails, Mohavisoul
The Acoustic Evenings series at the Athenaeum showcases local San Diego acoustic musicians. Three performers are featured in each program and are available at the intermission reception and post-concert meet-and-greet. The project advances the Athenaeum’s commitment to support San Diego talent. The spring series continues with UnKannie, Trails and Rails, and Mohavisoul. UnKannie, an exciting new project of Kyle Merrill and Annie Dean, plays a great mix of covers, Brothers Gow originals, and Dean original tunes, performing on guitar and harmonizing together. Walt Richards and Paula Strong formed Trails & Rails to combine their Western history interests with their love of cowboy and train songs. They have performed together for over 25 years in various formats, including the instrumental group Mandolin Madness. Encouraged by the resurgence of acoustic music, guitarist/singer Mark Miller and singer/mandolin player Randy Hanson formed MohaviSoul in 2012 to create a new sound in Americana and bluegrass music with a mix of originals and unique covers.
