Acis and Galatea
1475 Catalina Boulevard, San Diego, 92107
Cost: $15 - $50
Join Bach Collegium San Diego for the first concert of their 15th Anniversary Season. The Baroque orchestra and chorus performs historically-informed works of Bach and his contemporaries. Handel's Acis & Galatea was his first dramatic work in English when it premiered as a one-act masque at the Cannons estate, home of the composer's patron James Brydges, the Duke of Chandos. Acis & Galatea portrays the love affair between the nymph Galatea and the shepherd Acis, whose reunion is thwarted by the monster Polyphemus. The work is filled with Handel's dramatic storytelling, led by an all-star cast of soloists.
