Palomar/YPO Percussion Ensemble
Hear why percussion is the heartbeat of a musical ensemble at the Tap in Time concert by the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (YPO) Percussion Ensemble. The concert will be in the Palomar Studio Theatre. This Palomar/YPO ensemble consists of advanced percussion players age 15-25, who perform under the direction of Heather Barclay, YPO Music Director. Currently teaching at numerous schools in the San Diego area, Ms. Barclay was the principal percussionist with the International Chamber Players and performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Civic Orchestra, the International Symphony Orchestra of Tijuana and the Tijuana Opera Orchestra, the San Francisco Ballet, among numerous others. The performance kicks off with Scott Harding's tribute to Japanese percussion with Taiko, followed by New Rosauro's Japanese Overture. These are followed by contemporary percussion with Soul of the Machine by Michael Varner and Technology by Jim Casella. The balance of the performance features the work of Chris Brooks, Nathan Daughtrey, Georges Bizet, Max Freedman, and Jimmy DeKnight. The nonprofit YPO is dedicated to enhancing the musical, social and intellectual growth of young musicians of all ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds, through inspired instruction, dynamic ensemble rehearsals, and exceptional performances.
