Tershia d'Elgin: The Man Who Thought He Owned Water
750 W. Fir Street, San Diego, 92101
Cost: Free
Join us in Maple Canyon for a modest stroll through a hidden treasure in the midst of urban San Diego. As we wander the canyon we will see a deep ravine, a “sediment trap,” and several historic San Diego elements that those not knowing what to look for would easily miss. Tershia will discuss these features, along with other landforms of the area, that led her to write The Man Who Thought He Owned Water: On the Brink with American Farms, Cities, and Food, the story of her city-bred family's rare experience after they decamp to a farm on the South Platte River in Colorado.
Adventure includes guided tour through Maple Canyon, a lively discussion with the author on the controversy of water rights, and a Q&A with the author.
