As Painting, So Poetry (Ut pictura poesis)
2730 Historic Decatur Road, Barracks 16 #202, San Diego, 92106
Cost: $45 - $54
It has been said that “writing about music is like dancing about architecture.” But what about poets writing about art and artists? Is writing about painting like dancing about astrophysics, or dancing about politics, for example? Visual art and poetry have been dance partners for hundreds, even thousands of years. This creative writing course in making poems delights in the long history of entwinements between poetry and the visual arts. In this workshop, writers will have an opportunity to read poems about art and to experiment with making visual and concrete poetry, ekphrasis (poetry that uses a piece of visual art as inspiration), collage poems, and erasure. Please bring a journal. All other materials provided.
