Taco Takeover: Leo Gutierrez of Saskas
Every Tuesday from 5 pm till close we feature a guest chef to create three additional tacos to our menu for that evening.
Chef Leo left Tijuana for America’s Greatest City at the age of 13, his love for his grandma and her home cooking frequently led him back to his hometown. In fact, his passion for cooking was largely inspired by the countless hours spent in the kitchen with his grandmother, preparing traditional Mexican dishes with love and care. His culinary studies in San Diego have included stints as sous chef with notable local culinary artists such as Joe Magnanelli and Javier Plascencia. In 2016, he moved his talents to Fireside by the Patio, quickly proving his prowess as a meat and wood-fire aficionado. After just a year manning the signature iron Santa Maria grills, Leo was promoted to executive sous chef for the grand reopening of historic Mission Beach institution, Saska’s Steakhouse. At Saska’s, Chef Leo’s grilling expertise is a perfect fit, lending insight to a meat-centric menu focused on steaks, seafood, and American grillhouse classics.
