Organic strawberries and jammin' at Suzie's Farm Saturday

Popular Tijuana River Valley organic farm to throw strawberry-filled bash complete with music, farm tours and culinary demonstrations.

In 2004, Suzie's Farm started providing San Diego County with herbs and edible flowers.

They've since grown into a 140-acre USDA-certified organic farm, including a myriad of fruits and vegetables in their mix.

Part of this growth includes a 60-acre plot, located about a mile from the main fields, that was recently acquired in December 2012.

That field had been priming for about 5 years, waiting for its first taste of seed, before Suzie's Farm took it over.

This pocket of land has since been named Suzie's On Sunset, which is now to be the only glimpse of what the public will see of Suzie's Farm since the other fields are off limits.

Suzie’s Farm will christen Suzie’s At Sunset (2570 Sunset Avenue) Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m with its first official event of the season, Strawberry Jam.

This is Suzie's Farm's second official Strawberry Jam event, with much more to show than last year.

Two bands are lined up to play, The Flashing Sirens and The Yes Team - both trios.

The Flashing Sirens regularly play at San Diego Contra Dances while The Yes Team "[spreads] unity through harmony" with their acoustic folk/pop.

The public are urged to bring their own instruments to take part in the Strawberry Jam Jam, which will round out the music festivities and close the day's events.

Although bringing your own picnic is encouraged, three gourmet food trucks - Green Truck, Crepes Bonaparte, and Under The Crust who will be making individual pies made with Suzie's Farm strawberries - will be on hand with fresh food for purchase.

Curds and Wine and Fermenters Club will hold a demonstration on how to make a strawberry wine.

Later in the day, Jackie's Jam, providers of Suzie's Farm's strawberry jam, will show ya'll how to make - you guessed it - strawberry jam.

There will also be farm tours and strawberries sold by the pint and case.

One thing that will be missing, however is the U-Pick aspect seen at all other Suzie's Farm events.

Ya see, strawberries need to get into the ground in November, but Suzie's on Sunset wasn't acquired until December, so the strawberries needed to be planted in their main field which, as I mentioned before, is off-limits to the public.

It's logistics only for this strawberry event, and the U-Pick fun will be return to future Suzie's at Sunset events.

Full schedule of events for Strawberry Jam is as follows:
10am: Doors open
10:30am – 11:30am: Flashing Sirens
11:15am – 12:15pm: Cooking Demonstration with The Fermenters Club and Curds & Wine
12:15pm – 1:00pm: Farm Tour
12:30pm – 1:30pm: The Yes Team
1:30pm – 2:30pm: Cooking Demonstration with Jackie’s Jams
2:15pm – 3:00pm: Farm Tour
2:30pm – ???: The Strawberry Jam Jam
