Issa committee used taxpayer funds to attack Obama, says reform group

The House Committee on Oversight and Reform, chaired by Rep. Darrell Issa, Republican of North County, made a one-minute video unfairly slamming President Obama, according to publicintegrity.org. The video criticized Obama for the cost of state dinners. It went on Twitter and on to conservative blogs over the weekend. Melanie Sloan, executive director of watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said Issa's committee was responsible for "one of the most outrageous abuses of official resources I've ever seen." The group will file a report, said Sloan.

There are rumors that Issa plans to run for President in 2016.

Burwell: Issa as candidate would be a field day for journalists and comedians who specialize in politics like Bill Maher. He has a MOST interesting background. Best, Don Bauder

Spudboy: Yes, full steam ahead, but those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. Best, Don Bauder

Don, Issa has proven to be as much a threat to Democracy, Iraq and Afghanistan heroes and patriots and women along with the GOP in congress as Manchester is with his deranged rant U-T editorials and full page U-T aditorials.

It is totally amazing that there are enough republicans left in San Diego to keep republicans like Issa in office, but republicans always believe U-T editorials that use Rush Limbaugh's manual of deranged rants.

At least Manchester failed with his anti-Obama and anti-Filner aditorials and Limbaugh style editorials.

Thanks for your continuous efforts to expose lies and threats by Issa and Manchester to our younger generations who can still read and think because our youngest generations proved to be that reason that so many republicans failed in the 2012 elections.

Anon: Manchester lost on just about everything UT backed. I suspect UT hurt DeMaio rather than helped. Disgust with that paper is rampant. Best, Don Bauder

They don't even have color comics on weekdays.

mridolf: Yes, but their editorials are comical. Best, Don Bauder

Don, the latest problem is that the U-T's post-election coverage is 3rd rate whining.

The best reporter on San Diego left is Tony Perry, and he writes for the LA Times. The LAT gave us more information on the election on Wednesday than the U-T has for two days because the U-T is in the whining mode.

It has become obvious that Manchester is using deranged rant print journalism to destroy what is left of the U-T because he is replacing print journalism in San Diego with his new TV network emphasizing Rush Limbaugh copycat talking heads, including a twice convicted felon as his anchor.

Anon: UT hired Roger Hedgecock, who used to sub for Limbaugh occasionally. Best, Don Bauder

Don, once again, Thank You Very Much for keeping San Diegans informed as the best investigative reporter at a time when we need to know the truth more than ever.

In light of the election results, all of this is moot, isn't it?

Visduh: It certainly isn't moot if you own the paper and realize you are completely missing the market. But maybe they don't realize that, or don't care. Best, Don Bauder

Don, when is someone going to expose Issa and his Traitorcan party for driving America over the cliff while selling out their country to superPAC oligarchs?

The #1 charge of treason is for failing to provide support for American Heroes and Patriots, and their families after they risked and lost their lives and health fighting to keep America free from the likes of the GOP Traitorcans and other terrorists.

Anon: The conservatives you complain about are not traitors. Their problem is that they are not really conservative: they oppose social welfare but not corporate welfare. It bugs me that people are talking about cutting entitlements, but I don't hear people talk about cutting corporate entitlements. We could go a long way toward reducing the deficit sharply by: 1. Putting a small transaction tax on trades of financial instruments; 2. Eliminating tax loopholes that permit corporations to get away with paying little or no taxes. 3. Passing severe criminal penalties to those -- individuals and corporations -- dodging U.S. taxes and regulations by placing their money in offshore tax and secrecy havens. Best, Don Bauder

I must most respectfully disagree with you Don. When republicans indenture themselves to Emperor Grover and then treat returning veterans and their families as if they were slaves who were supposed to sacrifice their lives without appropriate compensation for the purpose of enriching Emperor Grover and the superPAC oligarchs then that is as bad as it got in the days of ancient Greece and Rome when the military were betrayed by the same kind of traitor ruling class we have today. Nothing has really changed in over 2000 years.

Our founders wrote the Declaration of Independence to free Americans from Tories in 1776 who treated Americans the same as republicans and their masters do today as proven by the republican rhetoric during the presidential campaign that just ended except for continued treason by the GOP and their masters.

In addition to treason against Americans and our military heroes and patriots today, the republicans are bankrupting America to enrich their masters by driving us over the cliff.

Far too many people fail to learn from the lessons of history in Athens, Rome and the American colonies, so we are at grave risk again even though we were warned by President Eisenhower in his 1961 Farewell Address that the power of money can place our Democracy at grave risk again.

The only thing to be thankful for at least temporarily is that Obama and the Senate won, but the republican rhetoric of hate and destruction still continues 24/7/365 so it's not over until we overthrow the tyranny of Emperor Grover and the oligarchs like we did the Tories during the Revolutionary War, for the same reasons.

Anon: Tony: I agree that Grover Norquist is, to use his own words, a poopyhead. It amazes me that the Republicans bow worshipfully to him. I guess they will continue to bow right into their own graves. Best, Don Bauder
