Career Criminal Back in Custody

In 1994 he pleaded guilty to two felonies, stolen vehicle and evade officers with reckless driving, and he got a 2 year prison sentence. The crimes were committed in Oceanside. He was 18 then.

In 1996, he pleaded guilty to another stolen vehicle charge, and the reckless driving charge was dismissed. Sheriff’s deputies in Vista caught him, this time it was a 4 year prison term.

In 2001 he was sentenced to 8 years prison for two counts of armed robbery in Escondido.

Escondido police said that Torrence Andrew Williams, now 36, robbed a Check’n Go store yesterday, July 5. But somebody noticed what he thought was suspicious behavior and got pictures of a license plate which he shared with police.

“An attempt was made to stop the vehicle which was being driven by a suspect matching the description given by the (robbery) victim,” according to Escondido Police Lieutenant Neal Griffin. “The suspect refused to stop and fled in the car. A short pursuit ended when the suspect crashed in the area of Bobier and South Santa Fe.”

Police said they recovered cash from the wrecked car. A normally reliable source described Williams as “Deep Valley Crip.”

Williams is expected to be arraigned on new charges of robbery and felony evade in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse on Monday, July 9.
