DNA Evidence in Hearings Against Firefighter

In the second day of testimony, attorneys questioned friends and classmates and relations of a 17-year-old boy who has accused a 38-year-old man of abusing him since the boy was 14-years-old.

Raul Licon Jr., a California firefighter, has pleaded not-guilty to multiple counts of felony child abuse.

Evidence yesterday revealed that carpet was collected from different places in the San Marcos home where the boy said acts of abuse had occurred. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Crime Lab did find semen on the carpet samples, and these were DNA matched to Raul Licon Jr., according to testimony yesterday.

The friends and relatives and classmates of the alleged victim who were called to the witness stand variously described the boy’s complaints about his alleged tormenter as “just typical teenage complaining” or “over-the-top.”

The boy testified earlier that he became suicidal in late 2011, and carved the words MISERY and FREAK into his own body, and after he was taken to hospital he revealed the alleged abuse.

Raul Licon Jr. was arrested in March 2012, immediately posted $250,000 bond, and has been at liberty since.

Private defense attorney Richard Layon has aggressively challenged the accuser’s credibility, suggesting the teen had a “grudge” against the defendant and the abuse claims are “absurd” and “fantasy.”

The first hearing was July 26, the second hearing was August 10, and the last part of the preliminary hearing is set for August 31, when Superior Court Judge Harry Elias is expected to declare whether sufficient evidence exists to order Raul Licon Jr. to stand trial for child abuse.
