Harry Reid Bashes Georgiou; San Diego Delegation Raises Cash

Democratic Sen. Harry Reid has come out swinging against Byron Georgiou, the ex-San Diego lawyer who worked for Bill Lerach and is now living in Nevada and running in that state's Democratic senatorial primary against establishment candidate Rep. Shelley Berkley.

The Las Vegas Sun quoted Reid as saying he wished he hadn't named Georgiou to the Federal Crisis Inquiry Commission that investigated the U.S. financial meltdown:

"'Here’s a guy; I didn’t know he lost a number of house races in California,' Reid began, itemizing a near list of complaints about Georgiou. 'He boasted about all of these jobs he was creating; all the jobs are in China. He didn’t bother to tell me about all the lawsuits that have been filed against him. He didn’t bother to tell me about all the liens on properties that he had.'"

Meanwhile, in local political news, the Sacramento Bee is reporting that freshman Assemblyman Ben Hueso and his colleague Marty Block, along with GOP Sen Mark Wyland have joined the rush of Sacramento fundraisers being held despite lack of progress on a state budget:

"It's been a month of firsts. A majority-vote budget gets passed by a Legislature whose members won't get paid because Controller John Chiang pronounced the budget unbalanced after Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed it.

"But here's something that hasn't changed -- fundraisers are stacking up like hotcakes at a benefit breakfast. No fewer than 18 lawmakers have been passing the hat for past or future campaigns so far this week alone.

"Monday, Republican Sen. Bill Emmerson was looking to bulk up his campaign chest for re-election.

"Tuesday saw nine legislators making the restaurant rounds from Spataro to Chops to Esquire Grill and beyond:

"Democratic Assemblymen Marty Block, Das Williams and V. Manuel Pérez, and Sen. Curren Price; plus Republican Assembly members Dan Logue, Katcho Achadjian, Chris Norby and Diane Harkey, and Sen. Sam Blakeslee.

"Today, these lawmakers continue the quest: Democratic Assemblymen Ben Hueso, Sandré Swanson and Henry T. Perea and Sen. Noreen Evans; plus Republican Assemblymen Brian Jones and Don Wagner, and Sens. Doug LaMalfa and Mark Wyland."
