Ex-County Lobbyist Staffers Use Congress's Revolving Door

Three ex-employees with the County of San Diego's Washington lobbying firm, Von Scoyoc Associates, have turned up on a "revolving door" list of former federally registered lobbyists now working as congressional aides.

The list was released today by OpenSecrets.Org, a project of the Center for Responsive Politics.

"Dozens of senior staffers that work for members of Congress and congressional committees are former federally registered lobbyists, having represented various special interests that frequently clash with Congress, an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics and Remapping Debate indicates.

"And after the GOP won control of the House in November 2010, more lobbyists flocked to top jobs on Capitol Hill during the 112th Congress than during the two years prior, the Center's research indicates."

The three former Von Scoyoc employees listed by OpenSecrets are Robert Primus, now chief of staff to Massachusetts Democratic congressman Michael Capuano; Patrick Rothwell, chief of staff for the GOP's Louis J Barletta of Pennsylvania; and Bryan Blom, legislative director for Sean Duffy of Wisconsin, another Republican.

According to federal filings, during the first quarter of this year San Diego county paid Von Scoyoc $70,000 to handle "Public safety issues; Transportation issues; and Byrne Grant related issues," before Congress.
