Life as an Educated Peasant. Being Poor in America's Finest City.

It isn't hard to find oneself numbered among the working poor in San Diego. At least it wasn't for me. But as someone surely said to me at some point in my youth, "Your education is something that no one can take away from you". This is totally true, even for those who never use their educations to land good jobs. These days, I live in beautiful Bonita with my husband Michael. We rent a room in the home of a friend. We struggle constantly with money issues, but we never suffer because of them. Although we could surely use more money than we ever have, we are not ashamed of being poor.

In the days and weeks to come, I hope to share with you some of the experiences that come my way as one of the working poor in San Diego. Sadly, many of my fellow "peasants" lack the time, energy or verbal skills to express what it's like to be a poor person in this town, so I will always endeavor to foster understanding of the unique issues which we all face.

As you read my humble blog, please keep in mind that I'm not looking for pity or charity. Compassion, to whatever extent it is sincere, is always appreciated. Assuming that many of you may not have the opportunity to interact with poor folks in any meaningful way, I hope you find my stories enlightening.
