Psst: Wanna Be a Princess? Eat at McP's

“Prince Harry?” says Ted. “Sat right here.”

He plonks himself down by the Seals mural in the smoking area of the patio.

I’m at McP’s, the Navy Seal hangout in Coronado (McP’s Irish Pub & Grill, 1107 Orange Avenue, 619-435-5280), where the prince turned up and downed a pint of beer and a burger with three pals.

Ted, who manages McP's, says the prince and his crewmates flew into North Island. Didn’t drive -- as some had said -- from El Centro, where they’re training in Apache helicopters (partly because conditions are like in Afghanistan).

The beer garden patio

“They filled two tables, actually,” he says. “The other table was four big guys. Must have been his security.”

The prince's corner

Ted says they just had “a beer and a burger, spent an hour chatting and then took off for the Hotel Andaz downtown.

“I went up and welcomed them, shook hands -- he had a nice firm handshake -- that was pretty much it."

Ted sits where the prince sat

This is when I suddenly realize: Coronado, the Hotel Del, wasn't that where the Prince of Wales met Mrs. Simpson and ended up abdicating the English throne? Scandal of the 1930s. Could this happen again in Coronado?

Leah Bentley, the good-lookin' leggy gal (from the pictures) who actually served the prince, isn’t here tonight, but she told the reporters who swarmed here afterwards, “He didn’t flirt with me...but I wouldn’t have minded if he had.”

Ted says a couple of female customers did try to join the royal party, but the prince and his buddies said, “No, thanks."

Customer Lisa Mooney (she wasn't there the night Harry visited) sees what it feels like to (almost) sit with "the world's most elegible prince"

And McP’s burgers? Did they get the royal thumbs up?

“They didn’t send them back,” says Ted.

I have just had one myself. Not the cheapest (cheeseburger, $9.25 with fries), but standard for the Sceptered Isle. And this is just my un-royal opinion, but it was big, juicy, lots of charcoal-broiled flavor, plenty of tasty fries...

Okay, I’ll say it: Fit for a king.
