Your Mission, This Saturday…

That long-promised grand opening for Mission Brewery (downtown in the old Wonderbread building at 1441 L, between Petco Park and Father Joe’s) is happening at last, this Saturday June 18th.

As of Tuesday afternoon Mission Brewery has already sold 400 tickets to the event (You can get tix at their website, MissionBrewery.com).

And even though the place must have the longest bar since, well, the Long Bar (TJ’s late-lamented block-long drinkery from the 1930s), what with Mission’s cluster of giant brewing vats taking up center-stage, it’s gonna be crowded.

Opening runs from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and costs $15 if you order online, or $20 at the door.

That entrance fee gets you a book of ten tickets, good for either food or booze. Your choice. Seven-ounce glasses of brewskis like Russian Imperial Stout and Belgian Golden, or small plates of food.

And interesting ones too: Chefs from restaurants like Blind Lady Tavern, Hamilton’s, and The Corner will be serving up such dishes as Cuban sandwiches, ray Ahi sliders, and, from the Handlery Hotel, “Mission Amber braised crispy pork belly over fried apple orzo.”

Hmm. Whatever "orzo" is, that dish could be worth sacrificing a beer ticket for.
