Baja & Border News Translations: Students Will Train Peers; Tecate Schools have No Absentees

Students Will Train Peers (Tijuana Press, 1/14/13 by Daniel Angel/Leonardo Ortiz)

Tijuana, BC - High school students will be responsible for providing talks to their peers about dating violence and pregnancy in teens for free hours of social service. This is part of an agreement signed between the Ayuntamiento de Tijuana and Preparatory Cbtis 155, although according to Miriam Ayón, Councilor of the Commission on Equity and Gender, the intention is to expand the program as a so-called "promoter of gender".

She indicated that this is the beginning of the medium level program, but is already at the top level in the catalog of receiver units at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC). "Every day we see it in hospitals, both the general and at the different health centers, girls of less than 15 years who have registered, are 40% of the people who are pregnant", she commented.

Miriam Ayón said that the training will be conducted by staff at the Municipal Institute for Women (Immujer), and the students will not have to leave campus to perform their service, making it a requirement for graduation. http://www.tijuanapress.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8676:capacitan-a-estudiantes&catid=1:locales&Itemid=50

Tecate Schools have No Absentees (Tijuana Press, 1/14/13 by Nora Leticia Garcia)

Tijuana, BC - Despite the low temperatures registered during the last days in the region, there was no absenteeism of students at the 148 basic level schools in Tecate, indicated the System Educational State (SEE)

However the area where there was some setback was the villages of El Hungo and La Rumorosa, due to the closure of the road from the state capital to Tecate, because some resident teachers of that municipality could not come to work on-time, announced in ESS statement.

Parents were called to make sure the children wore winter clothing such as gloves, scarves and hats. Another recommendation was to avoid sudden changes in temperature and drafts. In case of rain have umbrellas on-hand; cover noses and mouths with scarves to not breathe cold air and drink lots of fluids and also eat fruits and vegetables with Vitamins A and C. http://www.tijuanapress.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8668:tecate-no-registra-ausentismo-de-estudiantes-see&catid=35:nacionales&Itemid=27
