Baja & Border News Translations: 20 iPods Delivered to Elementary School; Zero Tolerance for Violators of Disabled Spaces

20 iPods Delivered to Elementary School (Frontera, 10/22/12 by Laura Durán)

TIJUANA, BC – On Monday, the Soroptimista Primary School became the first institution to begin the National Intelligent Community Program promoted by Infonavit, which with iPods seeks to increase student grades in math, English and reading comprehension skills.

The program was carried out with support of a private donor initiative that provided the economic resources to purchase the equipment and implement the program at this school located in La Mesa as a pilot study. What is produced here may lead to the growth of the program in other municipalities in the country, said Angel Ramos Gómez, representative of the Regional Consultative Council of Infonavit and a member of Coparmex.

In total 20 iPods were delivered in an official ceremony led by Mayor Carlos Bustamante, which serves 80 children to use during class hours. The donation of 20 others is expected, confirmed Secretary of Municipal Education, Juana Laura Pérez Floriano.

The mayor said that the City Council did not have to pay for any of these devices as they were the product of a private donation initiative, including the Association of Notaries and Canadevi, which was overseen by the Fundación Internacional para la Comunidad to ensure transparency.

"This is a unique support effort in the country, so we hope that as a result of this program new links with other institutions will emerge to invest in and improve education, as we always looking to increase quality," said the Mayor.

As part of the ceremony, students of the municipal Soroptimist School demonstrated how the iPod can contribute to learning mathematics.

"I am sure that we will see the results in the next link test examinations" and this may be only the beginning of a valuable collaboration with the municipal system and Infonavit, noted Pérez Floriano.

The event was also attended by the Secretary of Government, Alcide Roberto Beltrones Rivera; the Director of the Soroptimista Club, Ana María Figueroa Gómez and the Municipal Primary Representative of the Regional Consultative Council of Infonavit, Angel Ramos Gómez. http://www.frontera.info/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/22102012/632671.aspx

Zero Tolerance for Violators of Disabled Spaces (Frontera, 10/22/12)

Playas de Rosarito, BC - Alderman Arturo Vega Rojo said the regulation in our municipality in respect to people with disabilities is not obsolete. In conjunction with Mayor Javier Robles Aguirre, aldermen, DIF, and municipal public safety, the rules for caring for people with disabilities in the municipality of Playas de Rosarito have not changed.

As Government we have lot of work to do and a great commitment to persons with disabilities, since Rosarito is an inclusive municipality and we want to build a culture of respect for individuals with a disability.

Through the direction of Economic Development and Tourism, we seek to promote jobs and create more educational options in Rosarito. Vega Rojo commented that an amendment will regulate increased fines for citizens that do not respect the designated blue spaces and carry the required card for persons with a disability. They will be fined 4,600 pesos ($358 US) and there will be zero tolerance, even if they are foreign nationals.

Of the money charged in the fines, 50% will be allocated to improve transportation routes to make ramps and place handrails on stairs for the elderly. The other 50% will be allocated to civil associations that work for the benefit of persons with disabilities.

For this reason, an information campaign has been implemented on the boulevards of the municipality by public security. Soon these fines will be carried out and remember that there will be no tolerance of citizens who do not respect the spaces or the disabled. http://www.frontera.info/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/22102012/632701.aspx
