Baja & Border News Translations: Domestic Violence Persists due to Culture; Ignacio Anaya Will Run BC in 33 Days

Domestic Violence Persists due to Culture (Uniradio Informa, 12/18/12)

TIJUANA, BC - Despite the legal instruments to defend women who suffer domestic violence, a culture lacking the effort to denounce it persists along with a fear to proceed with action against their partners, because 80% of complaints in this matter are granted forgiveness, said the Director of Inquiries of the Prosecutor from Baja California in Tijuana, Sergio Alberto Lagunas Bonilla.

He indicated that while the Office of the State Attorney General has a structure in place to deal with domestic violence problems, many cases are still not reported. This year, of the 500 cases filed, 80% of these were withdrawn.

In this sense, he pointed out that while there is a resource for restraining orders, so far in the PGJE none have been established, he stressed, however, that sometimes they are sought as part of the remedy by lawyers, but without enough conditions existing for its origin.

"We are not talking about this in terms of procuring justice; talk in the culture is to only complain, we are talking about victims who refrain from denouncing and of 500 cases, 80% are granted forgiveness. Municipal police take action. There is domestic violence. As soon as they call, they immediately go and they will immediately be placed before the public prosecutor ", he explained. http://www.uniradioinforma.com/noticias/bajacalifornia/articulo164536.html

Ignacio Anaya Will Run BC in 33 Days (Uniradio Informa, 12/17/12)

TIJUANA, BC - Tijuanense Ignacio Anaya Barriguete seeks to provide an example to youth, by now performing an effort to run along the Peninsula of Baja California in little more than thirty days beginning January 11, 2013.

At a press conference, he reported that he will perform a cross-country marathon that starts at Cabo San Lucas and will culminate in Tijuana in order to continue promoting tijuanense fame that all roads lead to this city, from January 11 to February 17.

The personal race represents a journey of 1,728 kilometers which would require a daily, although not high-speed daily run between 6 and 8 hours a day. The municipal bodies of Rosarito, Ensenada and Tijuana, as well as private companies, will support him with sponsorship so he can rest along the way.

Among the reasons that inspired him, the tijuanense athlete highlighted, he wants to be an example to children and young people about the importance of sports in daily life. "The intention is to demonstrate that extreme athletic feats are important in Mexico and can be done because at times we looked to England, Australia, or United States and the truth is that we can do them here. Two, I am very interested to leave out of Cabo San Lucas and get to Tijuana because as tijuanense I like to demonstrate that all roads lead to Tijuana and share that idea with children who I have invited since I climbed Everest. To tell them this and generate this expansive wave that Nacho is not mad for wanting to cross the Baja California peninsula by running, though it is important to run to care for our health", he said. http://www.uniradioinforma.com/noticias/bajacalifornia/articulo164538.html
