Border News Translations: SD Crime; Revenge; Wife Dies

SAN DIEGO CA (Frontera, Ana L. Gomez, 5/26/11) - This past weekend officers of the San Diego Police Department - South of the Border Crime Division and the Gang Unit arrested 31 people under Operation Stonegarden, which focuses on reducing border crime in the region. Operation Stonegarden is a federal grant program administered by the Department of Homeland Security, and provides budgets to State and local agencies to increase security at the border and in US territories. Last weekend, Operation Stonegarden, officers and detectives concentrated in areas along the border known for gang activity and illicit drug use. Of the 31 people detained in county jail on charges of petty crimes: 7, were parole violations; 9, for under the influence of a controlled substance; 9, had outstanding arrest warrants; and 6, for various charges including possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of controlled substances. These operations are reported to have helped reduce crime rates and improve the quality of life for San Diego citizens. No violent crimes were reported in the Southern Division while police were completing these operations.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Luis Gerardo Andrade, 5/26/11) - Revenge was the motive for killing the couple who was found dead a few days ago in trashcans. In this case, four men were arrested. Fermín Gómez Gómez, Assistant Attorney against Organized Crime of the PGJE revealed the detainees are José Ramón Gómez López, 28; Rudy Naydi Moreno Ramos, "Chiapas", 22; Saul Albert fruits Silva, 25 and Adam Esteban Martínez Flores, 26. The official report of May 7 stated the PGJE located the bodies of Esmeralda Sánchez Duarte, 24, who was 14 weeks pregnant and the body of a still unidentified man between the ages of 45 and 50. The bodies were found in garbage on calle Estatuto Jurídico dairy farm in colonia Xicoténcatl Leyva Alemán. Gomez Gomez explained that the wife of "The Chiapas" was engaged in the sale of drugs and had been arrested days before. It was assumed that the now deceased had "pointed the finger". After an investigation, ministerial officials could only give the whereabouts of those now involved.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Luis Gerardo Andrade, 5/26/11) - After spending 14 days in a coma, a woman who received a beating from her husband died this morning. He is at large. According to the Attorney General of Justice of the State (PGJE), Leticia Hernández Hernández, 30, died at 6:30 a.m. today. The woman was brought by relatives to the Red Cross on May 12 where she was admitted into intensive care due to the severity of the injuries. Her relatives reported to the authorities that husband was who had assaulted her. Immediately police agents searched for the individual, however, to date, he was not found. Leticia became comatose and remained until she died this morning.
