C is for Cookie

I was craving some milk and cookies before bed. But I don't keep cookies in the house anymore. I just don't have the will power.

I lost a lot of weight a few years ago. I slowly gained a bit back. But I'm trying to keep myself in check with basketball, racquetball, and daily dog walks. My sweet tooth makes those activities a draw.

I figured by not having sweets in the house, I won't be tempted. And cookies are the worst, because you really can't eat just one or two.

I remember the Girl Scout Thin Mints. I'd eat half a box at one sitting. There was a brief time the Thin Mints tried going healthy, and tasted horrible. But they're back to being yummy.

I might like cookies more than anyone that doesn't smoke pot and get the munchies can.

I thought since I'm sitting here jonesing for a snack, I'd blog about cookies.

A few kinds I don't care for: Snickerdoodles. Cool name, but the cookie doesn't deliver.

Animal cookies. Great for kids, but they don't taste very good. And those little colorful things get stuck in your teeth.

Which reminds me...my mom makes the best chocolate chip cookies on the planet. She sometimes puts nuts in them, which drives the family nuts. If you do this, you're ruining a perfectly wonderful creation. Although, some would say the same thing about oatmeal, and I love that in cookies.

Well, the other day she put in poppy seeds. What the hell? I've seen those on muffins, but in cookies?

But I digest.

Why can't those animal cookies have the kind of frosting they put on those cookies you get in the grocery stores? They taste like a hybrid of cake and cookie. And they always have frosting that matches whatever holiday is upon us.

Chocolate chip cookies that have M&Ms substituted for chocolate chips, never work. The chocolate isn't as strong.

Some would argue chocolate/chocolate chip is too much chocolate. I don't think there is such a thing.

As a kid, I didn't like oatmeal raisin cookies. I love them now.

I love the pinwheels, and the combination of marshmallow and graham cracker. I just hate the fact that they leave your hands a mess. And I always destroyed the package trying to open them (yet another excuse to just finish the entire bag...if you don't, they might go bad).

The last time I donated blood, I tried some Nutter Butters they had out with the donuts. I hadn't had those peanut shaped cookies since I was a kid. They were okay.

Oreos do nothing for me, although I love them in ice cream.

I never cared for Chip Ahoys, although the chewy ones are almost as good as the Soft Batch.

I hate Famous Amos, but love Mrs. Fields.

I haven't had the Grandma cookies in a while. Those are usually sold in packs of two at liquor stores. They used to be $.59 and had three different flavors that were delicious. They weren't so soft that they'd crumble all over the place as you were driving and eating them after putting gas in your car.

I believe Mother's went out of business. But they used to have a small, square chocolate chip cookie that was white. They were called "angels", and they did taste like something sent from heaven. For some reason, I had the hardest time trying to find those.

Okay, I'm off to bed. Still jonesing, but not as bad. Instead of dreams of sheep jumping over me, it'll be cookies gliding over a tall glass of milk. Maybe I'll have a bowl of Cookie Crisp in the morning (is there a worse cereal around in terms of health?)

Tell me which kinds of cookies I missed on this list. And what the cereal makers can create to top Cookie Crisp. I'm guessing some kind of brownie bits cereal is probably in the works at General Mills.
