Bitten by the Bug, err..Boa

A famous parent, that doesn't seem to be on the right path.

People talk about famous bad parents. And, it's always the usual Michael Jackson, covering up his kids heads and dangling them out the window. Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears mom. And now, them, as parents. The list goes on and on.

Sometimes, I think the bad parents are a lot more subtle.

I think Terri Irwin, the widow of the Crocodile Hunter, is one that deserves a place in this category. Maybe not Top 5, but somewhere on the list.

Now, you can't knock her for what she does for animals. And, she seemed like she was a good wife to Steve.

But, I've watched as her daughter got more and more TV appearances and shows, and became more and more obnoxious and precocious.

At first, I gave them some slack. The little girl lost her father. Maybe that was part of their way to grieve, and celebrate his love of animals.

But, the mom never seemed to shut the girl up on talk show appearances. And, I doubt off stage, she ever corrected her, either.

Now I hear, from an Associated Press story, Terri's 4-year-old son, was bitten by a baby boa constrictor.

She said, "He picked one of them up and it bit him on the finger, and he was so proud to have copped his first hit,'' she said at a toy store appearance, where Bindi (named after the croc, of course), was signing dolls that were made to look like her.

She joked about how the boy hoped they weren't venomous, and how she thought that was funny, that he'd think she'd let him play with venomous snakes. Well...how about the fact that you're even letting your kid "play" with animals at all. Last I heard, they can be dangerous. Sharon Stone took her husband backstage at a zoo, and he had his toe bitten off. It doesn't always have to be venom that gets ya.

Now, I had mixed feelings when Steve Irwin held the baby boy while he fed a croc. He didn't realize why this was so bad. It was. I find out now...in this same story, that Terri said, "Bindi was first bitten by a snake when she was 18 months old."

Bindi was more interested in talking about her new product. She said "It's every little girl's dream to have an exact look-alike doll. It's amazing."

I'm guessing, it's every girls dream to have a father that stays alive long enough to see you grow up. And, to teach you not just about animals, but keep you out of harms way. And...if when you're a teenager you gravitate in that direction, then you can maybe start handling animals and risk getting bit.

At the age these kids started, it's just sick. Just as sick as the little league parents and soccer moms that are forcing their kids to practice at age 4, when they'd rather be looking for bugs in the grass than shagging fly balls.
