Bloody Disgusting Selects brings Blood Runs Cold to the Gaslamp

Normally I do my best to avoid touting public film screenings of DVDs. Call me a purist, but if a film was shot in 35mm, why watch it pixilated and degraded in such a manner? Besides it looking like crap, for a few dollars more than the price of an admission ticket you can own a copy!

With more and more older, desirable titles being bumped up to DCP (Digital Cinema Package), the current industry standard for theatrical exhibition, there is no reason a theatre chain, wanting to dabble in repertory bookings, should be projecting anything on Blu-ray, let alone a conventional video disc.

The entire budget for Blood Runs Cold -- the inaugural film in a new weekend series titled Bloody Disgusting Selects -- was $5,000. What are the chances the filmmakers could afford the money needed for a digital blow-up? The film will be screened on Blu-ray, which is at least a step up from DVD.

According to the press release, director Sonny Laguna filmed the Swedish horror film, "in the style of his idols, Sam Raimi and John Carpenter." Hanna Oldenburg stars as a woman who returns to her hometown after life in the big city gets to be too stressful. Back home she runs into an old flame and a new house occupied by leftover tenants.

Blood Runs Cold (not to be confused with the delirious Joey Heatherton stinker, My Blood Runs Cold) debuts at Reading Cinemas Gaslamp 15 at 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday March 22 and 23.

Someone on YouTube posted a 20 minute chunk of the Joey Heatherton movie you mentioned... but the person who posted it was only interested in the sailboat used in the film. Click on the link if you want to see excerpts.
