Thora Birch In Person for Saturday Night's Screening of Ghost World

Last week The Big Reel announced this Saturday night's screening of a 35mm print of Ghost World in conjunction with the San Diego Film Critic's Society, Reading Cinemas, and Fantagraphics Books. At the time, I hinted at the possibility of getting one of the film's stars to put in a personal appearance.

Guess who's coming to the Gaslamp Theatre?

Who will ever forget Joan Blair, brilliant in the part of "Lady Crossing Street Slowly?"

I'M KIDDING!

Thora Birch at the 2002 San Diego Film Critic's Awards Ceremony

Two-time SDFCS award-winning actress Thora Birch (Best Supporting Actress for American Beauty and Best Actress for Ghost World) will be on hand this Saturday night at 9 p.m. for the screening at Reading Cinemas Gaslamp 15. Tickets are only $5.00.

Daniel Clowes, Thora Birch, and Terry Zwigoff

When SDFCS founding member Dan Bennett put in the call, Ms. Birch remembered our recognition of her outstanding performances and kindly consented to stop by to introduce the film and join members of the SDFCS for a post-show Q&A.

Scarlett Johansson's phone was still off the hook when I called to invite her.

Thora Birch and the late Greg Muskewitz. He was a great kid, crazy in love with movies, and someone who will forever be missed.

Thanks to Kathy Foster for the photos and Alison Gang and designer, Muana Fanai, who masterminded the too-kewl artwork.

And do you know how nervy it is to expect a major theatre chain to give up its biggest screen in town on a Saturday night in exchange for showing a 10-year-old film? Blessings to thee, JoEllen Brantferger, and the rest of the nice folks at Reading Cinemas for helping to make this happen.
