We Need a Little Christmas Music

It's Christmas, so why not spread Yuletide cheer with a plug for my pal, former student turned eternal teacher, Rob Martinez. You may recognize Rob as "Colonna," the mad poster who ignites The Big Screen comments section with a blaze of his violently insane observations.

Rob "Colonna" Martinez.

Rob, a self-appointed Christmas music curator, has weeded through his 25,000-plus song archive and put together four hours of Christmas music you're not likely to hear anywhere else, that will run tonight and Wednesday on WBOI, Northeast Indiana's public radio station.

The songfest airs from 4 PM to 6 PM PST. Every half-hour is a different theme, so expect eight mini-shows spread over four hours. Some of Rob's music blocks will include “Overlooked Christmas Songs,” “Christmas With The Beatles,” “Christmas Song Origins and Trivia,” “Christmas Mash-Ups,” and “Christmas In Fort Wayne.”

That last segment will be of particular interest. Let's hope that Rob goes into great detail concerning Fort Wayne's annual holiday tradition of exchanging socks at midnight. C'mon, folks! The poor guy lives in Fort Wayne, IN! The least we San Diegans can do is send a little e-warmth by giving Rob a listen.

I begged Rob to put this on a four-hour loop.

It's the week of Christmas, and chances are there's not a helluva lot going on at the office. The shows stream live on WBOI. Put your feet up, attach the headphones, and click here. Look for the "Listen Live" button at the top of the page.

Merry Christmas, "J.C.," and to all you Big Screen loyalists eager to get their hands on this week's print edition of The Reader -- it hits the stands on the 22nd -- to read the long-anticipated Lickona/Marks Christmas movie cover story!

And for The Youngsters in our audience, here's a chance to warm up your pipes for tonight's holiday songfest.
