Applause and Concern
Hello FOUNDER. I live in La Jolla and drive the La Jolla Blvd portion thru Bird Rock you mention above almost every day. The traffic circles that were installed are a great improvement over the 5 or 6 stop signs they replaced. The traffic does appear to move more slowly, but constantly without stops, which ultimately saves time. I think is also saves wear and tear on the brakes and reduces gas consumption. The problems usually occur because tourists (or others not familiar with traffic circles) sometimes stop before entering the circles. My only complaint is the city planted too much landscaping bushes/trees in the new center median. One has to be very careful to watch for pedestrians that might suddenly jump out from the bushes trying to cross the street.— March 20, 2010 7:04 a.m.
