The Fall of Western Civilization at a North Park Coffeehouse
The Reader's choice of Sarah Palin as a poster child for the "Fall of Western Civilization" got me to at least browse the article. Kudos to the responsible party, though the implied characterization is a truly cheap shot. Grine is to be commended for putting up with those navel gazers for as long as he did. The demographics of the participants are an amusing snapshot of those who see themselves as the intellectual keepers of the flame: retired school teachers, academics, Washington apparatchiks, you know, people who belong to the biggest circle-jerk of all time - democratic socialism. Being a liberal means never having to put up with an opposing viewpoint; you simply label it as evil and, voila! You're done. My son has lived in that neigborhood for a decade and I now understand what he means about its decline at the hands of the urban cognoscenti. While I would enjoy the opportunity to exchange ideas in a truly free environment, I'm too busy 6 days a weeek exploiting the people who work for me and jealuosly counting my shekels every night after I put in another 12-hour day.— April 29, 2011 9:56 a.m.
Global Warming Is Crap!
Wikipedia as a reference to support global warming??? You green weenies crack me up. And don't think I'm not for clean air/water/earth and maximizing resource efficiency. Who isn't? The real "denialists" in this saga are the pinheads like you who are so smug in your ignorance you haven't even looked at the facts. James Hansen and the rest of the twerps at NASA/GISS have now been caught using taxpayer funds to cover their butts when it was discovered they've fudged temperature data regarding warming. Investigations are underway. Michael Mann and his "hockey team" at Penn State are under investigation by the university and the National Academy Of Sciences. Ever heard of "Mike's Nature trick?" The University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit, the supposed gold standard of climate research facilities, is now under investigation by the British government for violating England's Freedom of Information Act when they were asked for the data that supports warming. They DELETED hundreds of data records to hide the fact that instead of warming, the earth has been COOLING for the past decade. The foregoing stories have all been dubbed "ClimateGate" due to the scandalous behavior of the principals, among whom are a Who's Who of global warming scaremongers. And today, ABC News has a report on "GlacierGate", wherein the head of the UN's International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has resorted to using opinion pieces from the World Wildlife Fund to scaremonger Global Warming. These claims were not only not peer reviewed, they aren't even science! CAN CLIMATE FORECASTS STILL BE TRUSTED? Confidence Melting Away: Doubts Grow in Climate Change Debate http://abcnews.go.com/print?id=9685251 The IPCCs Chairman, Nobel laureate - and mechanical engineer - Dr Rajendra Pachauri (who's been lining his own pockets in this scam) is now under fire in his native India, where calls for his immediate resignation are clamoring daily. They don't want any more embarrassment.— January 28, 2010 11:20 p.m.
San Diego’s secret missile-testing sites
Are there *really* people with this world-view still around in the 21st century? Yes, I guess so, and they write for the Reader. Got a news flash for ya Mossie baby: almost all of those scary, toxic hazardous substances you list in the article as having been used at Sycamore canyon exist in some form or another in your home (whether it's in tres-chic Del Mar or your new and oh-so-boring Scripps Ranch locale), your place of work, or, heaven forbid, your surfboard, the maker of which used the frightening high-explosive "MEKP" (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide) to harden the fiberglass resin. I can't wait for the Reader cover story expose on the yuppie lawyer who endangered his Scripps Ranch neighborhood with the chromium, lead, cadmium and countless petrochemical compounds he recklessly leaves in his driveway every night when he parks his car. It's enough to give you Bush Derangement Syndrome.....— April 10, 2008 12:09 a.m.
