UCAN Board Members Claimed Under Oath Group Has No Members

The U.S. Attorney (basically, the FBI) announced the investigation and requested voluminous documents. The FBI is doing the investigation. That could become a grand jury matter. Best, Don Bauder

UCAN Board Members Claimed Under Oath Group Has No Members

I'd prefer to learn that this was the subject of a DA, or Atty General's, or FBI investigation. A "grand jury investigation" may mean that that ineffectual and ignored count grand jury is looking into this. When did any sort of investigation or recommendation from that body ever mean a thing?

Bonnie Dumanis Prepares to Launch Television Ad Campaign

Bonnie has to do this because she is firmly entrenched in 4th place in the mayoral race and her fortunes are sinking faster then the Titanic when it hit that iceberg 100 years ago this past week. Plus Bonnie needs to account for all the "campaign donations" she is blackmailing and cajoling out of all the big shots, fat cats, and stuffed wallets she trolls for on a regular basis. What better way than to splash her unattractive mug on our TV sets at dinner time and really make us blanch at the prospects of the Dirty D.A. infesting her "culture of corruption" into City Hall!

Lawyer, Mother Convicted in Mortgage Scam

Not a bit surprised. And I'll also be surprised if they get any serious time (depending on one's definition of "serious time").

Steal $100, go to prison for 10 years. Steal $100,000,000, go to prison for 3 (that's just my characterization of the situation, not based on any review of statistics).

Lawyer, Mother Convicted in Mortgage Scam

Steal $100 million and go to prison for 3 years? No way. Steal $100 million and you get off free in most cases. Remember, Madoff confessed to his son; government had to act. Enron was so widely publicized that the government had to step in. John Moores dumped more than $600 million of Peregrine stock before the collapse. But when defense lawyers argued that their clients, minor executives of Peregrine, were facing criminal charges for selling $1 million of stock, while Moores was not even a defendant, judges would not let Moores's name be mentioned in court. There is an ancient poem: "The law doth punish man or woman/ Who steals a goose from off the common/ But lets the greater felon loose/ Who steals the common from the goose." Best, Don Bauder

Rubio's Warns Shareholders Their Social Security Numbers Were Stolen

If a thief just grabbed a laptop that had the drive in or near it, there may be no real breach. But if this was a targeted theft, the results could be nasty. This data is entirely too portable and this sort of breach will be a fact of life from here on out.

California Coastal Commission Meeting for Point Loma Project to Be Held in Marin County

I don't get this. It seems to me they would not even be satisfying any legal requirements by holding public hearings in Marin County. Or, is it because it's the California Coastal Commission, so they are covered if they hold the hearing anywhere in California??? I still think if someone from the affected communities filed a complaint, the hearings would have to be held in the area. This is too ridiculous.

And you're right, Twister--an incredible indignity--to the people in Pt. Loma most especially.

Must be big money behind all this.

San Diego Economy: Where’s the Oomph?

San Diego soon will be able to have a new tourist marketing appeal. "Visit the Third World without a passport. See San Diego's crumbling streets, leaking pipes, ragged beggars, and polluted beaches without crossing a border."

New Proposal: Huge Hike in TOT Tax to Improve Infrastructure

Jacobs owns San Diego and he will build what he pleases. It will take a ballot initiative to prevent Jacobs from raping Balboa Park. Once Carl "Momo" DeMaio is elected Mayor, he is going to start planning his next move. He will probably run for the Senate or Governor. DeMaio has only been in San Diego six years. He doesn't give a crap about Balboa Park. He wants Jacobs' money and political support for his future campaigns.
