Current Owner: Duyane and Michelle Weinger

This week we visit the onetime estate of Pete Rozelle, credited by the property’s listing agent as being “the Commissioner known for making the NFL the most successful sports league in the world.”

The 1992-built mansion at 5973 Rancho Diegueno in the tony inland suburb of Rancho Santa Fe features five bedrooms and nine baths spread across nearly 10,400 square feet of living space.

The interior is “adorned with imported 17th century limestone floors,” as well as “fireplaces imported from the Loire Valley” in France, including one dating to the 1100s. Other materials imported from Europe include “terracotta pavers, hand-cut limestone flooring from Puglia, Italy, 19th Century Italian fixtures, 18th Century Spanish doors, 18th Century hand hewn oak and chestnut beams, and contains countless historical artifacts.”

The “culinary style” kitchen is an exception to the old-world style found throughout the rest of the home, stocked with modern chef-quality appliances including a stone pizza oven and a “massive center island that is covered with book matched Calcutta Gold Marble [slabs custom-cut so that natural patterns within the rock flow seamlessly].”

Game room with wet bar
Four-car garage and a “car museum”
The ocean is not too distant

The kitchen opens to a “stunning conservatory” that itself is adjacent to a 1000-bottle wine cellar. Other living spaces include formal dining and entertainment areas, a movie room, his-and-hers offices, a game room with wet bar, and a gym. An elevator offers an alternative to the sweeping staircase at the main entry salon.

The 725-square-foot master suite offers several lounge-seating options as well as a pedestal tub in a bath with its own fireplace.

The grounds include a resort-quality pool and spa in addition to the “1500-square-foot pool pavilion,” tennis court, 3.3 acres of “manicured gardens,” and views from the mountains to the “not too distant ocean.” There’s also a four-car garage and a “car museum” that houses another 11 vehicles.

After Rozelle commissioned construction of the mansion, he sold it to Sid and Jenny Craig, the latter of which is the namesake behind the famous weight-loss firm. The couple sold the property to Jenny Craig Inc. chief administrative officer Duyane Weinger and his wife Michelle for $6,050,000 in 2011, after an earlier attempt to sell with an asking price of $8,995,000 attracted no buyers. The full purchase price in excess of $6 million was covered at the time by a loan issued by an unidentified private party.

Weinger has commissioned numerous improvements, including a complete kitchen overhaul, during his course of ownership. The home was listed again for sale on July 13, this time carrying an asking price of $14,995,000.
