Housebroken

Habitat House, a residence and home recording studio at 1008 21st Street, has been hosting house parties with live music for several months. Upwards of 100 people attend, with cover charges usually waived due to the lack of venue permits. "We have run into some issues with one particular neighbor who is going to put a damper on things for a while," according to a recent MySpace post by organizer Roy Silverstein. "The crux of the matter has to do with people out front talking, yelling, and being generally loud.... He also pointed out to me a spot where two people seemed to have relieved themselves on his property. This is totally unacceptable. And, apparently, it's not the first time."

"If there is another problem like the one we had last night, I will only have one option: discontinuing all house shows at the Habitat," says Silverstein. "It will be very important from now on that the outdoor lingering be kept to a minimum...and, obviously, please refrain from pissing anywhere but the toilet. There are two in the house for your use.

"I'm going to try to temper that in the future by being careful about who is booked. Bigger bands, you'll have to play elsewhere." Habitat House has canceled its July concerts and has cut back August to one show. At this writing, operators still plan a September 1 event with Bunky, Red Pony Clock, Rafter, Kite Flying Society, and around a dozen other bands.
