The New City Sinfonia: A Paris Connection
The New City Sinfonia (Daniel Ratelle, Director) presents A Paris Connection, a concert of music written in or for the city of Paris, including one of Franz Joseph Haydn’s Paris Symphonies, No. 83 (“The Hen”), and French composer Léo Delibes’ Le Roi S’Amuse, based on Renaissance dances. Also included will be the symphonic “Introduction and Overture” by Albéric Magnard, as well as excerpts from Bizet’s opera The Pearl Fishers.
Now in its 31st season, the Sinfonia is sponsored by San Diego Continuing Education, and draws its members from all over San Diego County. The group presents three concerts to the San Diego Community each year, plus additional outreach programs. Concerts often feature soloists, from young students to nationally-known professionals. Director Daniel Ratelle is the founding conductor of the Sinfonia, and also teaches Music at Mesa College.
