Lisa Napoli: Ray and Joan
The Coronado Library in partnership with Bay Books will host author Lisa Napoli in the Winn Room. When veteran Marketplace, New York Times, and MSNBC reporter Lisa Napoli stumbled upon one of Joan Kroc’s smaller anonymous contributions—a crumbling peace statue in Santa Monica built in 1991 for $250,000—she wanted to know more.
Lisa would spend the next five years tracking down the story of Joan Kroc, who, alongside her husband Ray and his $3 billion McDonalds empire, formed one of the one of the most compelling portraits of the 20th Century. Her book, Ray and Joan: The Man Who Made the McDonald’s Fortune and the Woman Who Gave It All Away is an in-depth look at the untold story of Joan Kroc, one of the greatest underappreciated philanthropists of the century.
