DNA Identification of Missing-Identity Children from the Holocaust
DNA Identification of Missing-Identity Children from the Holocaust with Colleen Fitzpatrick.
Of the 1,600,000 Jewish children who lived in Europe before World War II, only 100,000 survived the Holocaust. Most survivors were hidden children, shuttered away in attics, cellars, convents, or farms. In the chaos that reigned after Europe was liberated, restoring children to their birth families was difficult -- many parents perished in the camps, children were often too young to know their own name, and some children had been moved countless times to keep them safe.
In this presentation Colleen will show how Identifinders International in collaboration with 23andMe has started a new pilot study to show how autosomal DNA testing can help “missing-identity” children recover long-lost family connections. Colleen Fitzpatrick, Ph.D., is the author of two of the best-selling books in genealogy and writes a regular column for Ancestry magazine. Hosted by the San Diego Jewish Genealogical Society.
