Wind Tunnel: Opening Reception
An art installation repurposing the gallery as a full-scale wind tunnel, through May 9.
Hours by appointment only: [email protected].
Not An Exit Gallery presents Wind Tunnel, an installation by Richard Gleaves.
Wind tunnels are instruments used to study the effects of moving air on objects such as aircraft, golf clubs, statues, tents, and Lance Armstrong.
A wind tunnel consists of an enclosed passage with a powerful fan system at one end. Objects to be studied are placed in the center of the tunnel and exposed to the air flow generated by the fan. The resulting effects can be observed through windows installed in the walls of the tunnel.
Wind Tunnel is not to be confused with the San Diego Wind Tunnel, the only privately held low-speed aeronautical wind tunnel in the United States, which is owned and operated by the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
For the duration of its exhibition, Wind Tunnel will be available at no charge to anyone wishing to observe or directly experience the effects of moving air.
