Seventrain was founded by players from 24-7 Spyz, Cage, Tall, and Tourniquet, including Eric Horton (former Cage guitarist) and drummer Joel Maitoza (24-7 Spyz, Shockhead), along with singer Jon Campos (Tourniquet, Dive Bomber), guitarist Jef Poremba (Tall, Coffi Baker, 6ONE9), and bassist Steve "Dino" Andino (Tourniquet), who replaced Greg Rupp. They play raw, stripped down, blues-based hard rock.

Interviewed at the time, “I’d describe us as a hard-rock band that encompasses rock, blues, and metal influences,” said Campos, who earned his master’s in education from Point Loma Nazarene University.

“Yeah, Led Zeppelin on steroids,” concurred Horton, who reportedly once tackled George Lynch onstage (though he declines to elaborate).

Maitoza is perhaps the most well-established on a national level. “I jammed with Paul Gilbert before he started Racer X and with Geezer Butler [Black Sabbath] during a solo project,” he says. “My previous band, 24-7 Spyz, was featured in the ‘Car Wash’ episode of Beavis and Butthead. And they actually liked us!”

The band's first performance in Autumn 2012 was at a San Diego memorial show for the late Vincent John Crudo, (otherwise known as “Big Vinnie”), a local sound technician and bass player, where they performed several cover songs. Guitarist Horton and vocalist Campos decided to record songs they'd been working on, recruiting Maitoza to produce and play drums on the album, along with guitarist Poremba and bassist Greg Rupp (My Middle Finger, 6ONE9), who appeared on the CD but was replaced by Andino shortly after the recording of the album.

Recorded in early 2013 at DML Studios with engineer Don Lithgow (Blink 182, New Found Glory, Finch) tracked in analog on 2-inch tape, their debut self-titled full-length was released in February 2014 via So Cal Records/Alliance Entertainment. It was nominated for a San DiegoMusic Award.

In June 2015, a video was released for their track "Broken," featuring fan-shot footage taken from various performances around Southern California during 2014. A few months later, the band parted ways with lead singer Jon Campos, replaced by Eric Koonze (formerly of Sicarus). Campos went on to form Jon Campos & the Incurables.

New singer Eric Koonze (formerly of Sicarus) made his live debut with the band at Ramona Mainstage on February 5, 2016, when they opened for Operation: Mindcrime featuring Geoff Tate.

As of 2019, Eric Horton, Joel Maitoza, and Dino Andino still had Koonze on vocals, now accompanied by guitarist Dave Odegaard (who released two solo albums prior to joining). The album Back on Track dropped early that year via So Cal Records/Alliance Ent., preceded by a single and video for "Now You Know."

Former members Jef Poremba and Greg Rupp formed a new band called Leadfoot Overdrive, with a video streaming online for their track "Falling."
