Description

This Holiday Life’s latest CD is like the guy across the bar who catches your eye – not exactly your type, but still rather attractive, probably worth checking out. As one might expect for The Beginning of the End of the World, it’s a lot of sound, but it’s a balanced sound, crafted like a good ensemble drama on television, where everyone has their part to play. It could get overwhelming, but doesn’t. The 10 tracks work cohesively and flow well without blending together.

The last part of the album, beginning at ‘Alright,’ has a more relaxed feel, with the quiet ballad ‘You Are The Moon’ a surprise addition to a CD that aims for – an achieves – a casual jauntiness on every other song. Because This Holiday Life makes music in San Diego, comparisons to Switchfoot can’t – and shouldn’t be – escaped. But a few tracks, notably ‘Undercover’ and ‘Motivation,’ sound like pages out of Savage Garden’s book. The best track on the album, which coincidentally shows the best range of This Holiday’s Life’s potential, is the second: ‘Mission Control To My Heart.’
