SDSU holds on to beat USC

The Aztecs continue to dominate California, notching their 25th straight win against teams from California!

The Aztecs traveled to the Galen Center on Sunday for a match up against the USC Trojans. After jumping out to a 19 point halftime lead, the Aztecs had to hang on to win 66-60 in Los Angeles. Once again, Franklin saved the Aztecs, scoring 6 of his 17 points down the stretch to help the Aztecs hold off the Trojans. This game was about balance for SDSU having four players score in double figures. Chase Tapley has strained patella tendon and missed the game, while Franklin had a poor night shooting 4-15 from the floor.

Game notes:

SDSU owns California. This is the Aztecs 25th consecutive win against teams from California including 10 straight against teams from the Pac 12. The streak has spanned 3 seasons and is the longest in the nation. SDSU faces the UCLA Bruins on December 1st and will look to continue their streak.

Franklin and Rahon score enough, but Tapley was missed. Rahon was perfect from three point land making all three of his shots, including one in the clutch with a minute left to play. Franklin did not have a good night shooting, but made up for it going 8-8 from the free throw line. Tapley’s absence was noticeable. His shooting ability stretches the floor and helps open up the offense for the Aztecs.

Once again defense saves the day. The Aztecs held USC to three baskets over the final five and a half minutes of the game, after surrendering an 18-4 run by USC to start the second half. The defense continues to play impressively when needed.
