Burgers Are Famous at Jimmy's Famous But...

Although the 3 men at our table ordered burgers at Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern (J-FAT) on North Harbor Drive I went ga ga over the entrée salads. The most fun was the Kitchen Sink Salad made of a base of greens with diced avocado, tomatoes, bacon, corn (fresh off the cob), cheddar cheese, blue cheese, olives, and deviled eggs. To all this you can add grilled chicken, flat iron steak or a veggie patty. I choose chicken and it was quite a good salad…and large.

For those trying to eat healthy, order the BBQ Spiced Salmon Salad, with mixed greens, diced fresh corn, tomatoes, avocado and red onion. And no, it isn’t too spicy—just right.

Another fav is the Prime Rib Dip, a large sandwich with sliced prime rib, Gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, horseradish cream and some au jus on the side.

But let’s get back to those burgers. Each is made of 10 ounces of all natural ground sirloin and served with a side of French fries, peanut coleslaw, potato salad or a green salad. These burgers are quite good and our crew also ordered the Buttermilk and Beer Battered Onion Rings. These are not the little stringy rings but the BIG FAT ones, served with J-FAT’s homemade chipotle ketchup, which will spice up any meal.

One of the big advantages at Jimmy’s, after the full bar service, is the outdoor patio overlooking the Point Loma Marina.
