Border News: 1 Shot; Shakira Tix; Police have Shoot-out, Break Glass, Get Fired

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Luis Gerardo Andrade 2/6/11) - On Thursday afternoon, a young man was shot dead in a truck going to colonia Independencia. The victim was attacked on calle París, near “La casa de los pobres”. He was driving a gray pickup truck and indications were he was alone. At this time, the person has not been identified. He was presumed between 25 to 30 years of age and died from several inflicted bullet wounds.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Laura Durán, 2/6/11) - Tickets for the Shakira concert at Estadio Caliente in Tijuana on July 30, 2011 will cost between 600 and 2,500 pesos ($51-214). Presale tickets, promoted by the Foundation for Help will start next week just days before official sales, reported María Elvia Amaya de Hank. "Tijuana joins the world map of cities with artists of international stature," said the President of the Foundation for Helping. Although they expect between 18 and 20,000 attendees, Hank Amaya said he feels confident the public will demonstrate civility and good behavior that has prevailed at "xolos" parties and other concerts.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Luis Gerardo Andrade, 2/6/11) - Due to confusion between Municipal police officers, a shoot-out occurred along the channel of the Tijuana River, near the Tijuana Cultural Center.|According to first reports, two plainclothes municipal officers were chasing two suspected assailants within the river channel. However, other uniformed officers responded to the report and seeing the plainclothes officers displaying their weapons, shots were fired. One agent was injured, however not seriously. No additional information is available and whether they ever managed to stop the criminals.

TIJUANA BC (Frontera, Luis Gerardo Andrade, 2/6/11) - A Municipal Police officer and one of the State’s Ministerial Police (PEP) officer participated an altercation at a Centro de Gobierno parking lot, ending with the broken side glass of a patrolcar. Information gathered so far indicates the brawl was because the police officer parked in a prohibited place. The PEP patrol asked the city officer to move the vehicle. The problem would have ended there, but the State agent went to park elsewhere without a word to the Municipal officer, which led the city officer to draw his weapon, police sources reported. In the complaint, the Municipal officer crashed the glass of the PEP patrol car with the butt of his gun. Police authorities of both agencies consulted and pointed out the agents will be subject to investigation in order to determine responsibilities. Meanwhile, the Ministerial Agent, Ruben Valdez will submit charges for the damage.

Abel Galván Gallardo, visitor-General of the State Justice Department, reported the agents: Gregoria Moya Cacho, Francisco Javier López Ayala, Julio César Lomelí Sotelo, Charles Eric Villa Rios, Eduardo Iriarte Valenzuela and Carmen Andrea Meza Gómez. The first used a car with plates that did not belong to her. Lopez and Lomelí were assigned in Mexicali and appeared in a preliminary investigation related to a kidnapping. Agent Charles Eric Villa Rios was driving drunk. Eduardo Iriarte Valenzuela tried to intercede for detainees. In addition, the last one for her work (unspecified). The PGJE representative reported that so far in this administration, 150 officers have been removed. Of those, 90 have been ministerial police officers.
