“I was in the turn lane, and he stopped his car in the middle lane next to me even though there were no cars in front of him,” Rachel recalls. Their eyes met. He smiled and shouted, “Hey, pretty lady! Can I have your phone number?”

Between October 1 and mid-November of last year, 2 Afghans and 22 Pakistanis reportedly surrendered to Border Patrol agents.

"Military age men" at San Diego's southern border

Muhammad Azeem and Muktar Ahmad, both in their 20s, surrendered to U.S. Border Patrol agents in September, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. One was listed on the Terrorist Screening Database for “associations with a known or suspected terrorist. The other was a positive match for derogatory information in an alternative database,” according to Hunter’s letter.

Azeem and Ahmad are among dozens of men — described by Border Patrol agents as “military age and carrying U.S. cash” who began entering the U.S. through a Tijuana-based human-smuggling pipeline in September.

October 1, 1907 issue of Watchtower

Judge sanctions Jehovah's Witnesses

In a June 23 ruling, judge Richard Strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 Body of Elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.

Over the course of the past year, the Watchtower Society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.

The original poster of the photos — not the dog's owner — Anna, said that the dog “is fine and knew exactly what she's doing” and she “did it over and over...she loved it.” Most people weren’t too happy about the dog being thrown into the ocean and things heated up quickly.

A typical recent night on the Orange Avenue median in Coronado

Pokémon goes to Coronado and stays there

Passing drivers have been throwing things from their cars at the hundreds of Pokémon Go players that have been gathering on the large grassy medians along Coronado's main thoroughfare of Orange Avenue, according to calls to the police, Corbin said. This prompted the police to install cameras.

"We only have them up temporarily for the safety of the players, to see what's going on," Corbin said. She said the police have received calls about players "being hit by water balloons, soda cans," thrown by "people in cars, people driving by."

Aggressive transients put Ocean Beach on edge

On May 5, Gareth Michael Brown started a petition. “I haven’t had any bad experiences myself,” Brown said on May 8, “but I’ve talked to enough girls to know how bad it’s become. I have compassion for the homeless, but no one should have to avoid certain streets because of them. If we can get 1000 signatures, maybe we can get some political will to do something.”

Andrea Smith was introduced to the life of prostitution at age 11, through her mother

San Diego's sex-trafficking shame

The first time Smith sold her body, her mother was on her menstrual cycle. “She said, ‘Baby, could you do this favor for me; just this one time? I need you to suck [my client’s] dick.
